DEPARTMENT OF Bio-technolgy PROFILE Established : 2006

Overview

Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary subject which is a combination of biological sciences and engineering technologies immunology, virology and other subjects like health, agriculture, cell biology, plant physiology, seed technology. Biotechnology techniques are applied to biology, molecular biology, genetics, and many other subfields of biology and utilize cellular and bimolecular processes to create technologies and products that help improve our lives and the nature.

It is also research oriented field involving in:

(a).Tissue culture; tissue culture is one of the most widely used in any biological or biomedical research.

(b). PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is a technique used to make many copies of a specific DNA region in vitro, now days this RT-PCR is used for the diagnosis of COVID-19 pandemic.

(c) Gel Electrophoresis is another widely used technique in molecular biology it is used for the separation of biological macro molecules like proteins and nucleic acids.

(d).Western Blot also known as protein immune-blot it is a popular technique for the detection and analysis of protein based on their ability to bind to specific antibodies.

(e).Molecular Cloning, it is also known as gene cloning these technique is used for the recombination technology like recombination RNA and DNA. Finally almost all cell based assays are performed by using biotechnology techniques and bioinformatics.
