Govt. Degree College was established in the year 1983 with an aim of imparting quality education and all round development of students with emphasis on application oriented opportunities that cater to the emerging societal needs thus encouraging them to transform into socially responsible citizens. he institution got UGC recognition under 2(f) and 12(B) sections during the ear 1995. The Institution is affiliated to S.V. University, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

             The college is situated in the lush verdant and serene atmosphere studded with exquisite hill view in the back drop with the campus area of 6.89 acres. The area where the institution in located, serves as centre where students can commute daily from the radius of around 60 Kms of its vicinity and from about 150 villages to pursue graduation and post graduation in our college.

          Though most of the students fall short to compete with those students who hail from urban areas, the onus of nurturing and grooming such raw material in to well educated responsible citizens lies with the institution. The faculty always strive to channelize their energies, improve their knowledge by updating themselves with new pedagogies : ICT based teaching, student centric methods. Apart from this, teaching faculty are striving hard to fit into different roles of facilitator, mentor during Community Service Projects and internships. Further, the instruction is meticulously structured to impart skill – oriented, personality development centered , self-reliant education to students. The suggestions and observations of the previous NAAC Peer have played a decisive role in bringing about the desired improvement in the standard of the institute in general and the students community in particular.

          Govt. Degree College, Puttur is accredited by NAAC with grade B⁺⁺ in Cycle I (2006) , Re-accredited with grade B (CGPA 2.52) in cycle II (2013). And Re-accredited with grade B⁺⁺   in cycle III (2021). Regarding the headway it has made in practice and continuance of quality to which the institution is avowed since then. It is a sincere and soul-searching attempt to introspect and review the accomplishments of the students and the staff during the immediate preceding in five academic years in the college. The achievements are reported as per the indicators and standards as stipulated by the NAAC Manual on Re- Accreditation. 

            Govt. Degree College, Puttur has been assessed and certified ISO 9001 : 2015 on 03/05/2021 for providing quality Educational services. Govt. Degree College, Puttur has been approved  by Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals (G-Suite) on 05/06/2021.
